A custom 404 page is shown when a visitor opens a store URL that does not exist. ScaleEdges keeps the correct HTTP 404 response while displaying your published store design.
Open the 404 page editor
Use either of these paths:
- Open Settings → Store, find Custom 404 page, and select Customize 404 page; or
- Open the Website Builder and choose 404 page from the page selector.
The editor includes your global header, a fixed 404 content block, any regular blocks you add, and your global footer.
Edit the 404 message
Select the fixed 404 content block. You can change:
- the eyebrow text;
- the page title;
- the supporting text;
- the Back to store button label;
- whether the back button is displayed;
- whether the missing URL requested by the visitor is displayed.
You can also change the block layout, theme, spacing, width, background, and reveal animation using the normal Website Builder controls.
The fixed 404 block cannot be removed because it provides the page's error content.
Add other blocks
Select Add a block to add any regular Website Builder block. You can drag regular blocks above or below the fixed 404 content.
The header and footer are global. Editing either one changes it across the rest of the published store as well.
Publish the page
- Review the preview.
- Select Save if you want to keep the work as a draft.
- Select Publish when the 404 page is ready for visitors.
Saving without publishing does not change the public page. You may also schedule the Website Builder publication from the menu next to Publish.
Test the result
Open a made-up URL inside your public store, for example:
https://your-domain.com/this-page-does-not-exist
The custom design should appear while the response remains a 404. The page is marked so search engines should not index it.
If the test URL matches a rule under Automatic redirects, ScaleEdges follows that redirect instead of showing the 404 page. Use an unconfigured path for the test.
